For many men and women, excess fat can cause a great deal of frustration, especially when it won’t respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that can address these pockets of excess fat.
How Liposuction Is Performed
Liposuction is performed using IV sedation. This will keep you relaxed and comfortable during the surgery. The length of the procedure will vary based on the areas being treated. For most patients, a liposuction session takes between one and three hours. Liposuction on its own is an outpatient procedure, but if you are combining it with other, more extensive treatments, you may require an overnight stay.
The procedure starts with small incisions that will be strategically placed along the treated area. Then a small tube or cannula will be inserted through the incision. Once inside, the cannula will be moved through the fat tissue to break up the cells. Then they are then suctioned out, and the incisions are sutured closed.
