What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable cosmetic treatment made from a synthetic acid called poly-L-lactic. This substance is biodegradable so that the body can break it down and is biocompatible, ensuring it does not cause harm. Sculptra is performed using a series of injections spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. The result is stimulated collagen production that gradually replaced lost facial volume over time.

For years facial volume loss was difficult to correct. Certain facial fillers can lead to an “overdone” look, and surgical procedures can result in lengthy downtimes. FDA-approved Sculptra acts as a collagen booster, allowing you to build collagen over time while achieving a natural-looking result.

How Sculptra Can Help

When we lose volume in our face, it can leave us with a hollowed-out appearance. Unfortunately, facial volume loss is a natural part of aging. It can also affect the bone structure and cause fatty tissue to migrate to the mid-face when it occurs. This can create an increased fullness and the appearance of sagging skin. Most cosmetic procedures aim to replace lost volume with implants or synthetic fillers.

While there is nothing wrong with this, Sculptra offers a different approach by stimulating collagen. This results in a natural volume increase that occurs over time. When Sculptra is used, it can reduce areas of the face that have become hollow and help soften deep folds or wrinkles. This helps create a more lifted facial structure and restore your youthful appearance.

Where Sculptra Can Be Used

Sculptra should only be used in the recommended areas. These include:

  • Cheekbones
  • Temples
  • Nasolabial folds, also known as marionette lines
  • Hollowed cheeks
  • Jawline
  • Around the mouth

Sculptra can not be used for the lips.

How Sculptra is Performed

Sculptra is injected beneath over several treatment sessions. The exact number of injections will vary depending on the areas being treated and the degree of volume loss during each treatment. Before your treatment begins, a numbing anesthetic will be applied topically to help keep you comfortable during the injections.

In order to achieve the best results, most patients receive 3 or 4 treatments spaced six weeks apart. Once the treatment is complete, patients will experience a gradual increase in volume resulting in a more rejuvenated look. Your results from Sculptra can last for up to two years.

After Your Treatment

Once your treatment is complete, you may experience some swelling, which is expected. This should subside within a few days. Patients may also experience redness, pain, or bruising at the injection site. These can subside within a few hours after treatment.

The results from your Sculptra treatment in Manhattan will not be immediately visible, unlike with facial fillers. Your results will begin to appear over time and may take up to a year to show the full effect. Sculptra provides a gradual improvement and can last for up to two years. Patients should receive a maintenance appointment to ensure they maintain their results.
